Game Update Now Available
Welcome to the Mod Exchange!
You can mod many of the types of files within SimCity Societies, leaving you with an endless assortment of possibilities for your gameplay experience. The Mod Exchange provides you with a place that let's you share your creation(s) with the rest of the SimCity community!
Before you begin, here are a few things that will help you get started:
You must be Product Registered, logged in to the SimCity Societies site, and have SimCity Societies installed on your machine before you can upload or download creations from the exchange.
We strongly advise that you have the latest updates for SimCity Societies prior to uploading or downloading mods. To see if you have the latest update, go to the updates page.
When using the exchange, be sure to enter Title, Description, and all pertinent metadata fields. Though it is not necessary during the upload process, it will make it easier for others to FIND your creations. Please note that the meta-data will not affect the lot file. It's for exchange purposes only.
Using the Mod Exchange:
The Mod Exchange works by editing any of the various file types within the SimCity Societies "Data" directory and either saving them as the existing file with the same name, or as a new file. These include .tga, .xml, .xac, and many other file types. An example location of the data directory is C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\SimCity Societies\Data. Note: If you wish to save a file with a new filename and ID, you'll need to also add it to the C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\SimCity Societies\Localization\\ObjectText\BuildingText.xml file so the game knows a new file has been created and to use it.
Once you've modded your file(s) and want to share them, you need to create an XML file that is used to reference all files that were modded. See an example of an example XML file . Once created, this XML file needs to be placed in C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\SimCity Societies\Export (note: "USERNAME" is specific to the username on the machine).
After placing the XML file in C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\SimCity Societies\Export, launch the game, and it will automatically create a .SCSPack file in the same (export) directory. This is the file you want to upload to the Mod Exchange.
The Game Update improves the modding experience. After you have the Game Update, all you need to do to use a downloaded mod is double-click the SCSPack file. It will automatically move to the correct folder, and the next time you run the game, the game will unpack it and place all files in their proper directories, and the new custom content will be available in the game.
