A large fence divides a forest that divides two cities in confrontation. A group of Corporate Cyberpunks face off against the arsenal of propaganda put forth by a city of Religious Authoritarianism. How did such measures become necessary?
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, though. Both of these cities had humble beginnings. The first was called "Faith" and was a small, simple farming town with little more to makeup it's city square than a Temple, a Temperance Union, and a Parochial School.
The second was called "Reason" and had already garnished a strong appetite for technology. Artistic Murals, Nightclubs, and Media Outlets adorn Reason's streets.
Fearing for the corruption of their citizens and children, the people of Faith build a massive iron fence separating the two cities, forcing anyone who wants to travel between them to make a long trek around.
The fence creates an initial tension between the two cities that needed not be there.
25 years later both cities have grown, but not any closer.
Faith has expanded it's farming community, but at the same time signs of rooted authoritarianism are popping up in it's downtown core.
Reason has developed a small Corporate presence and continued to expand it's technological foundations.
Citizens of Reason dream of a day that their governments can overcome societal differences and be closer to their neighbors.
... as do the citizens of Faith.
50 years later, the citizens convince their governments to tear down a section of the iron gate and build a crude road between the cities so they can begin relations.
A sprawling forest grows shortly thereafter between the two cities. Both sides have their theories for how the other side caused it to happen, but no one knows for sure how the trees grew or why they grew so close to the formation of a road between the two cities.
CyberCorp's presence is felt strongly in reason now, dominating it's horizon when viewed from Faith. Protesters regularly shut down the massive skyscrapers.
Close to the power plants a small trailer park community has formed with some vigilante elements.
Faith's downtown core is similarly dominated, but by government institutions, cathedrals, evangelical venues, and low-income housing.
But the wealthier areas of Faith have retained their small town feel, with a rather frightening graveyard in the SE corner.
So this is where Zero Year stands today. Maybe one day if they put military and rebellion units in the city can actually get into some form of confrontation. :)
